Telemetry and tracing

Choose either OpenTelemetry Starter or Java Agent integration.

master · 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT / Reviewed 2026-10-29

Current module status

nextrix-telemetry aggregates implementation modules under groupId io.nextrix.telemetry. OpenTelemetry and Java Agent extensions are in the default build. Micrometer remains in its pre-migration state and is excluded from the default build.

Choose one integration mode

In Starter mode, the official OpenTelemetry Spring Boot Starter manages the SDK and auto-configuration, with Spring AOP for @WithSpan. Agent mode uses the official Java Agent and Nextrix extension. Do not enable both in the same application, to avoid duplicate SDK initialization, spans, and metrics.

application.yaml
nextrix:
  telemetry:
    enabled: true
    metrics:
      enabled: true
    tracing:
      enabled: true
otel:
  metrics:
    exporter: otlp
  traces:
    exporter: otlp

Signal switches and export

The Starter uses global, metrics/tracing, and component switches under nextrix.telemetry. SDK sampling, propagation, and export remain under otel.*. Agent extensions use otel.instrumentation.nextrix* rather than Spring configuration switches.

Choose one mode: do not enable both Starter and Java Agent integration in the same application.
